Aberdeen Royal Infirmary

New £110 million 350 bed Emergency Care Unit opened by Queen Elizabeth II in Feb 2013. Built by Robertson’s Contractors and designed by Mackie Ramsey Architects.

The project is based over 10 floors and 80% of the bed are single rooms with ensuite facilities. Hill-Rom assisted at an early stage with the hoist design and 135 No Overhead systems were installed. To future proof the Care Unit for a growing bariatric population 30 of these systems were designed to lift 500kg. Other systems designed included H systems (full room coverage) within 4 bed bays that worked in conjunction with the trusts existing curtain systems.
